Good and Positive Character Traits that Enhance and Develop Personality
Positive and Negative Traits Help Define each Unique Individual
Making the most of positive character traits
What is personality, and how is it defined? Who am I can how can I be better? Personality is a summation of a person's traits, positive and negative, plus the special blending of those traits and our being to create who we are – a unique individual. Positive character traits can only enhance our personality. In all honesty, most people would prefer to have and develop a positive balance of personality traits, with as few negative personality traits as possible.
A list of traits worth acquiring and/or polishing!
A few universally recognized positive character traits are listed below, including a brief definition:
Sense of Responsibility A dependable person. If he says that he will do it, you can rest assured that the job will be done right and he'll own up to his share of the bargain.
Ability to Persevere In life, many good things take time and patience to accomplish, as circumstances do not always not go as planned. A person who can withstand life's ups and downs while continuing to consistently take positive action forward is a valuable friend and partner.
Ability to Care for others and Show Compassion By looking around to those who are in need, embracing children or assisting aged parents is a sign of appreciation and humility, which are also positive character traits.
Self-mastery / Self-discipline A wise man once said “you must master your mind, and not let your mind master you!“. The ability live one's life not based on one's impulses, as the animals do, is a sign of maturity and self-discipline.
Good citizenship – societal behavior Thoughtfulness towards family, co-workers, and anyone else who shares your life requires basic etiquette. This includes polite and clear communication, apologies if necessary, and good hygiene, like leaving an area cleaner than the way you found it.
Honesty – Not lying or stealing This is self-explanatory
Courage To go forward, even in the face of difficulties, not without fear, but in spite of it.
Respect for Self and Others To remain a human being, not allowing yourself to be mistreated and to maintain the dignity of others, which is their natural right.
Integrity also known as “doing the right thing“ even when it may not be convenient to do so.
Loyalty To love one's home and country, and not ever betray it.
Turning Lemons into Lemonade
No one is perfect, and we can all improve. The good news is, by working on ourselves we can change a bad personality trait (like stubbornness or anger, for example) and convert it into something positive. For example, many leaders fighting for social justice, human rights and other sweeping changes in society have the characteristics of being naturally angry and stubborn. It is exactly this sort of tenacity that enables them to first identify a problem, then seek its resolution.
Taking an Inventory
It's not a bad idea to write down a frank inventory of both positive and negative character traits to see what could be improved upon. Good living comes from using these character traits to their best advantage. Each person is a precious individual with a unique path. These personality traits can be considered tools to be used on this grand journey.

Where am I, at the moment?
An attitude of gratitude means consciously thinking "Thank You!"
No fair ever beating yourself up - absolutely and completely counterproductive!
Being alive - WOW
Being able to stand alone - not live as an invalid, having the capacity to read, write, think, and act freely. These are great blessings to not be taken lightly!
In looking at "how can I be better" it might be easier to be absolutely objective.
- what could I have done differently today?
- what did I do well?
- what could I have done better?
- how would I do it if I had to do over again?
If you are lucky enough to have a trusted friend who you can confide in, try asking sweetly what you could improve upon. At first they may say "nothing" but tell them they are the only ones who will probably tell you the truth, and then take their answer without trying to qualify it.
The answer I heard was "it would be nice if you arrived early, not always at the last moment!" OK!
Good luck and have fun. We are all diamonds in the rough or mirrors that need cleaning every few days. Enjoy self-improvement. I recently decided I was going to stop complaining about my day job, even though what I have to say has merit. Who cares! At least I have a job, and am working towards the lifestyle I want, which seems to be not too far off in the future :)
Even a very small change can result in a big difference! The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. My personal determination is to take another step forward each day, if I can manage it! In most cases, I can - and do.
What do you think about these suggestions? For me a step is either writing a hub, reading, creating a wonderful memory with the help of photography, a journal entry, or accomplishing something (or even a part of) a project that I have been putting off.
